What the consultation is
We are exploring ways to improve the walking environment in 4 villages in Renfrewshire after residents raised concerns that the speed and volume of traffic are making the roads unsafe.
We have appointed transport consultants Stantec to carry out a study in Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Elderslie and Lochwinnoch.
The study aims to create a safer environment in the villages for all road users by managing traffic speeds, to encourage people to walk, wheel, and cycle more often for local trips.
It will examine where vehicle speed on main through-roads is a safety concern and propose traffic calming or pedestrian priority measures to address the issues.

Why we’re consulting
We are looking to improve the walking environment in 4 Renfrewshire villages after residents raised concerns that the speed and volume of traffic are making the roads unsafe.
How you can tell us what you think
We asked you to complete an online survey and provide your feedback on:
- traffic speeds and walking difficulties in your village
- what type of traffic calming features you would prefer
- where best to put traffic calming or pedestrian priority measures.
We also hosted public drop-in events in:
- Elderslie Village Hall, Elderslie
- Cargill Hall, Bridge of Weir
- McKillop Institute, Lochwinnoch
- Cornerstone Church Centre, Bishopton
At these events, you could speak with the design team about the project in that village, get more information on possible solutions and give your thoughts on the proposals.
The designs for each village were available to view after the public drop-in events.
We'd like to thank everyone who provided feedback in the first stage of the consultation.
We're now taking forward the next phase of engagement to gather local community feedback and help us refine proposals for speed reduction measures within Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Elderslie and Lochwinnoch.
