Artist's impression of the proposed Brown Institute Gardens

What the consultation is

We asked for your views on our proposal for a public garden on the site of the former Brown Institute in Renfrew.

We asked for feedback from people who work, live or study in Renfrew or the surrounding areas.

We wanted to know:

  • what you thought of the proposed garden designs
  • anything you'd add or remove from the proposed designs
  • any other comments you have on the proposal.

You can download and look at the exhibition materials showing the proposals.

What the proposal is

The new public garden aims to:

  • enhance the town centre environment
  • promote better use of green spaces
  • honour the former Brown Institute.

The proposal includes plans to reuse materials from the previous building, including plaques and original sandstone.

How you can tell us what you think

This consultation phase closed at 1:00am on Sunday 22 June 2025. The outcome of this consultation phase will be published on Monday 14 July 2025

People could:

  • come to the consultation event at Renfrew Town Hall and discuss the proposals with Council officers
  • view and comment on the exhibition of proposals in the town hall
  • give feedback online.

There were also comment boxes at Renfrew Town Hall and Renfrew Library for people to leave feedback.

The comment boxes were available until the consultation closed.
